Sound Scape Proposal: 5 4 3 2 1 Grounded

My goal is to create a soundscape that walks people through calming themselves down from a state of panic. This intends to allow the listener to identify the feeling of being overwhelmed and discover a way to ground themselves back to reality. It will start out loud with lots of static and loud chatter that you can’t make out and footsteps and other loud sounds coming from all directions. The overwhelming sounds will lessen as the voice goes the 5 4 3 2 1 grounding method until at the end with is just the soft sound of some cars passing and rustling of the trees.

I plan to achieve this using sourcing sounds such as static and white noise, chatter, and street sounds. For self-recorded foley of human breaths, footsteps, and trees rustling. I plan on using my own recorded voice for the ground method.

Approximant time length 2 mins.

Sound Scape Proposal: Race Day

I want to take people through the excitement of a Dragonboat race. When I am in a race, I take a moment to feel and listen to the ocean and the sound made as we put our paddles in the water together. The boat falls silent and only the official calls the commands then a loud beep you off like a flying dragon. In a race, you are so focused on your boat, so I am going to do the sound for only one boat for the race portion. It will be concluded with the boat erupting into a cheer after crossing the finish line.

I plan to use found sounds for the ocean sounds and the starting beep. The paddle sound and the other sounds in the boat I plan to record my own Foley. The official’s commands as other commands in the boat will be human voice recordings.

Approximant time length 1 – 1.5 mins.

Soundscape Project – Raceday

I went into this project to show what a dragon-boat race feels like. As I started working on the project I thought what if I did a premeditative thought? So it turned into a dream the night before the race.

The emotions I hope that this conveys to others is the mixture of nervousness and peace in preparing for a big event such as a race. Well, the peace part may just be my own how I feel about dragon-boating. It is a sport that helps me feel connected and grounded.

I started this project by collecting all of my found sounds from a combination of sources provided to us in the project description. Next, I started recording the foley for the paddling and the human voice for the speech, breathing, and yawning. The paddling foley was me hand paddling in the tub. I want to experiment more with it in the future to try and get a foley that sounds more like an authentic-sounding race paddling.
