Digital Storytelling – Photo Narrative Series
Week 1 – Planning
Project Outline – research + ideation, storytelling approach
For this project, we got to choose between two different themes “Return to Water” and “Emerging Forms of Togetherness”. I decided to go for the “Return to Water” theme as that was the theme that I felt more inclined to come up with ideas for.
Return to water can mean so many things. The one thing that stands out is that it is a cycle or ceremonial. I asked a friend, and she said I made her think of rebirth. From here I started brainstorming different ways to narrow it down.
- water blessings
- the journey of water from the tap to the ocean or lake
- different types of beverages we drink and how water is in them
- the water cycle and or different physical states of water
- life of a ice cube
Some of these ideas that I had like the water blessing one are impractical for the time frame that we have for this project. I think making a photo essay of an Orthodox Christian water blessing would be cool, but they really only happen on theophany and that has already past. Others I felt were probably already done like the journey of water from the tap to the ocean. I also was not overly enthusiastic about it for some reason. So I have decided to investigate taking photos of the different properties of water. In a way kind of play around with it like it is a little bit of a school science project. I also might find a way to get goggly eye in there some where and make the water into a character.
